Die zwei Gebäude der Mischabelhütte stehen auf dem Schwarzhorn, dem höchsten Punkt jener schmalen Felsrippe, die Hohbalm- und Fallgletscher trennt und bis zum Oberen Distelhorn hinunterführt. Über diesen Kamm führt auch der neue Zugang. Die Hütte ist von Saas-Fee und praktisch auf dem ganzen Weg sehr gut zu sehen. Dank der grossen Höhe bietet sie sich für die sehr hohen Berge der Mischabel und des Nadelgrats an.
