Makes a good day trip from Sounkyo, using the gondola and ropeway towards Kuro-dake. Hike over Kuro-dake then over Hokkai-dake on the way to the summit of Hakuun.
The trail is in good condition with two stream crossings and carpets of wildflowers in July
