Walk up
Mount Capulin, aka Capulin Volcano is an extinct volcano located on the northeastern New Mexico plains near the town of Capulin. Rising over 1000 feet above the plains to an altitude of 8,182 feet, the volcano is easily recognizable from the nearby road, Highway 87. Mt. Capulin is a national monument and receives federal funding. In 1926, a road to the near summit was completed and today visitors from all over the nation and many other countries drive up the narrow path to the crater. Two walking paths exist at the crater rim, as well as restroom facilities and information guides.
