Site Update (May 1st 2013): All weather maps have been improved to make them much more useful for climbers. Animate either temperature or weather and move your cursor to any mountain location to see how the weather is forecast to evolve at various elevations. Because of the limited space on these large region maps, we can only show this at a subset of locations. We will add much more detailed maps very soon.

Matterhorn is located in northeastern Oregon as a part of the Wallowa (Blue) Mountains. It is 9,826 feet tall making it the second tallest mountain in the range next to Sacajawea Peak. The best approach to Matterhorn is from Ice Lake on the east, to which there is a trail. A mountaineer's track leads most of the way to the summit from the lake.To get there drive I-84 east from Pendleton or west from Idaho to LaGrande. Take the Highway 82 exit and drive eastbound toward Elgin and Enterprise. Drive through Enterprise to Joseph on Highway 82, and keep going to the end of the highway at the south end of Wallowa Lake. The Wallowa Lake trailhead is at the very end of the road, elevation 4,600 feet. Take the West Fork Wallowa River trail.
