Walk up
The Krn is a beautiful and isolated peak, one of the most western 2000m in Slovenia. There are different routes. The western one, goes by the highest wall in this area, about 2000m (6500ft) above the Soca river. The main trail is the eastern route. It goes by the very beautiful Krn Lake, a high altitude lake (~1350m, 4430ft) All routes except the climb of the western wall are easy and can be done in 3h30 to 5h depending on the start position. The Krn area was one of the major WW 1 battlefields. It opposed the Austrian armies on the north part to the Italian armies on the southern. The Krn was always hold by Italian troops. There are some remains of military building south-east of the lake.
