Site Update (May 1st 2013): All weather maps have been improved to make them much more useful for climbers. Animate either temperature or weather and move your cursor to any mountain location to see how the weather is forecast to evolve at various elevations. Because of the limited space on these large region maps, we can only show this at a subset of locations. We will add much more detailed maps very soon.

Major Mountain Expedition
Gorichen is a high rock and ice peak and the most western and most easily accessed of the main Arunchal peaks. This mountain received its first ascent by a team led by Ronald Naar, who couldn't get a permit in time, because of the bureaucracy of the Indian government, so an illegal ascent was made. Today it is the most frequented of the Assam peaks. The hight of the mountain is still disputed; the 1994 Indian expedition reviced it from 6858m/22500ft to 6488m/21286ft (they thought that they made the first climb....), but also other hights have been measured. The mountain has several subsidiary, slightly lower peaks, which also have been climbed. Together with Bhutan, Assam is the least explored of the Himalaya, and inhibits many unclimbed 6000m peaks.
